Camp Gideon Work Day & Banquet

Record numbers of workers showed up to help get the Camp Gideon grounds ready for summer. “We had so many volunteers, we almost ran out of tools!” commented Camp Director, John Ryser.

Beloit Friends invited their youth to participate in a “Youth Work Day” and eight volunteers came prepared to do whatever was necessary. Winona and West Park Friends Churches also brought groups of volunteers.

Thirty-three volunteers spent the day completing a variety of projects. The new basketball goal and court is in place with the surrounding area completely landscaped. The Ropes Course is completely up-to-date, a new drainage ditch was dug, and enough firewood was cut for the entire year.

The entire camp was manicured and mulched in readiness for the summer camping schedule.

Following the work day, volunteers enjoyed fellowship and refreshment during the Annual Camp Gideon Banquet. The Summer Camp Staff shared their vision for the summer and times of worship and praise were enjoyed by all.

Director Ryser reports that almost $4,000 in donations were raised during the banquet. “We received enough to pay for the new basketball court. Once again, Friends vounteers have gone above and beyond. Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated.”

Let’s remember to pray for the campers and counselors this summer! Check out the Camp Gideon website, www.campgideon.org, for current pictures of campers from each week!
