Hanover Friends 5th Graders Prove Just How Smart They Are!
Bible Quiz proves just the challenge needed to keep the interest of 5th graders.
On Wednesday, June 6, Hanover Evangelical Friends Church in Mechanicsville, VA, hosted an end of the year fund raising event which included dinner and entertainment. The event was a huge success. The evening started at 5:30 with an All- American Cookout. They served grilled hamburgers and hotdogs along with baked beans, potato salad, chips, and apple pie a la mode. At 7:00 the entertainment portion of the evening began with music performed by three bands. A special highlight for the evening was a Bible Quiz Challenge demonstration by the fifth graders.
Junior Bible Quiz (JBQ) was a new ministry for Hanover Friends Church this year, but you would never know it from the demonstration challenge. A team of four fifth graders spent the last nine months working with their coaches studying and memorizing facts from the Bible and then practicing being the first to buzz in to answer the questions and gain points for their team. The team members were encouraged to study daily, practice with their team weekly, and then compete monthly against other local churches. Their hard work paid off and they received a third place trophy at the league finals in March. The Hanover Friends JBQ team challenged some church leaders at the fund raising event on June 6th. They took on the pastor, the elder of education, their Sunday school teacher, and a volunteer from the audience. The JBQ team won 280 to 40. Everyone was a really good sport about it and had a lot of fun.
