Guarding Our Hearts...the wellspring of life
A Time of Re-connecting
Friends from eleven states and Canada arrived in Canton ready to re-connect with friends. The Missionary Banquet brought together over 500 people to hear Jacelyn Jones report on her ministry to Filipina and Indonesian domestic workers in Hong Kong. Active and retired missionaries representing missions fields in Nepal, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico, Taiwan, Rwanda, Hungary, China, and Hispanics in the U.S. there recognized. Russell and Esther Zinn were honored at their retirement from more than 40 years of ministry in Taiwan.
A Time of Refining
Both Sunday and Monday evening services were times to be challenged in our spiritual lives. Dr. John Williams, Jr. spoke on the conference theme, "Guarding Our Hearts... The Wellspring of Life," (based on Proverbs 4:23) He presented God as "the ultimate cardiologist" since God looks at our heart with love. He said Jesus calls us to guard our hearts against callousness with compassion against materialism with the eyes of faith against a slow hardening by giving God what we have. Monday evening, Ted Haggard, president of the National Association of Evangelicals, and senior pastor of New Life Church in Colorado Spring shared in a "Pastors Think Tank" time prior to presenting the evening message. His purpose among Evangelical Christians is that we grow "life-giving churches" in our communities.
