To gather historical material for the Archives of EFC-ER and to oversee their classification, organization, availability, and preservation in order to promote interest in our Friends heritage and history (Faith and Practice
, page 58).
To oversee the collection and preservation of EFC-ER and local church materials, including general and board records, business and committee meeting minutes, photographs, publications, documentaries, mission reports, artifacts, membership, and other items to ensure the conservation of EFC-ER’s collective “memory.”
To encourage the larger EFC-ER community—including EFC-ER and church boards and committees, as well as individuals—to deposit Friends-related materials in the Archives of EFC-ER at Malone University.
To assist EFC-ER and its local churches in the planning and development of historical observations, such as the founding of EFC-ER.
To collaborate with and assist the Malone University archivist in the classification, organization, and preservation of EFC-ER materials in its archives, located in Everett Cattell Library at Malone University.
To facilitate the availability of and access to archival materials to EFC-ER members and other interested persons.
The Historical Committee’s largest task to date was planning and coordinating the EFC-ER Bicentennial Celebration held during Yearly Meeting sessions in 2012. The Bicentennial Committee produced a documentary series on spiritually “weighty” Friends, all of which are available below. In addition, the Bicentennial Committee published a commemorative Bicentennial booklet, which is available through the EFC-ER office. For copies of the 150th and 175th anniversary booklets, see the links to the right.
The Malone University archivist is in the midst of organizing and cataloguing EFC-ER archival materials, particularly EFC-ER missionary records. Funding for this project comes from a 2012 Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board (OHRAB) Historical Records Preservation Grant.
Collect and deposit archival materials from EFC-ER churches, such as recent donations of historical materials from Water of Life/Westgate Friends Church and Gilead Friends Church.
Develop guidelines for the preservation of church materials.
