Spring 2007 Facing Bench

Pastor James Herzog challenged his small, family-oriented congregation to step outside their comfort zones. They did with remarkable results!

Rescue Friends is a very small church that will seat 45 to 50 people comfortably. Regular attendance is around 20 to 25 folks. Imagine their surprise when "Bring a Friend Sunday" resulted in over 70 people in attendance. It was a cozy, and exciting Sunday for all involved!

Their bonus Sunday began a few weeks earlier with a challenge from their pastor. Pastor Herzog spoke on the parable of the talents and passed out 4 tickets per person. The tickets were invitations to their "Bring a Friend Sunday" and the church luncheon which was to follow. Each family prayed and passed out their tickets and trusted God for the results. The Lord blessed their willingness to reach out with triple attendance!

"I realize that these numbers will seem small to our larger churches," explained Ken Albright, Area Superintendent, "but each person represents the chance for a changed life. Six youth have joined the youth group and, God is blessing this little church for their faithfulness. We wanted to celebrate with them!"
