North Olmsted, Ohio Friends Church Host Second Soccer Camp
Ambassadors in Sport (AIS) Soccer Camp, a ministry which brings soccer coaches from around the world to train young children in soccer basics as well as share the gospel, arrived in Ohio and the fun began July 13-17. Comments like, "What did you say? I know you are speaking English, but I just cannot understand what you mean," were common as James Edgell, one of the coaches from England was trying to say, "a soccer ball and a field."Forty children, ages 6-12, arrived each day at 8:45 a.m. to play soccer and learn about the greatest gift ever given, Jesus Christ. Eight coaches and six assistant coaches kept things moving each day with a coaches vs. kids game, Bible time, assembly, coaches hot seat, learning new skills, world cup games, singing, and practicing the memory verse for the week, Matthew 5:13-16, a long verse for these children to memorize! But they were up to the challenge and even had a competition to see who could say it correctly the fastest. Marlena Lenchak was the champion by reciting it in 13.94 seconds.
For those who volunteered their time to help in any way needed to keep camp running it was great to see that our efforts were not in vain. Seeing the hands raised in response to the knock on their hearts' door by Jesus was worth it all!
