Friends across Eastern Region continue to seek ways to comfort and support our Friends family members who have experienced loss during the past few months.

On December 10th, a fire in the parsonage of Alum Creek Friends Church near Columbus, Ohio took the lives of two children. David Watson (age 9), son of Pastor Tony and Laurie, and family friend Chairdra Stapleton (age 10) died in the fire. Both funeral services were filled to capacity. During David's funeral, Friends pastors and their wives filled the choir loft, demonstrating their love and support.

Currently, the Watson and Stapleton families continue to take steps to forge ahead. The Watsons are in temporary housing while preparing a home to move into more permanently. Their other children are back in school. Funds continue to come in to help with the costs of everything from funeral expenses to restocking the spice racks. Funds can be sent to the World Outreach Center marked for either or both families.

The memorial service for Pastor Gaither Reich on Tuesday, January 9th, brought celebration and gave witness to the Lord's working in and through his life and ministry of over five decades. Again, many Friends pastors gathered to demonstrate through their presence the high esteem in which they held Pastor Reich.

A memorial fund has been set up through Camp Hawthornburg in North Carolina. The pulpit at Pine Mountain Friends Church will be covered by various speakers over the next few weeks until a steady interim pastor can be secured.

The funeral service for Ann Robinson celebrated her life and witness. She, along with her husband Charles served in ministry for over forty years, spending a majoirty of their time at Mt Gilead Friends Church. Again, our pastors were very present.

Memorial funds may be sent to Mt. Gilead Friends church. Please specify either the Gilead Building Fund or the Gilead Christian School Robinson/Harvey Endowment Fund.
