Dean and Freda Johnson wish to thank all who participated in the auction this year. Again, God has used His volunteers to bring about the funding for His work.

F.D.S. and the Johnson's didn't stop to rest for very long after the auction. Within two weeks, they were in Canton, Ohio working with a team of faithful volunteers to build a home for Jim Moore. Jim attends Canton First Friends Church and has been an active volunteer for F.D.S. In May 2001 while working at his job, Jim fell from a scaffold and broke his back. Because he would be laid up and unable to work for about a year, with no income, Jim and Trish decided they should build a more moderate house.

In the spirit of Galatians 6:10, FDS committed to Jim and Trish that they would provide the labor to help build their house. Jackson Friends provided lodging and some meals for the volunteers, Canton Friends provided some meals as well.

Dean reports that FDS volunteers worked for a week in Canton. The house and garage are up, roof on and felt papered. Windows and doors were installed. Special thanks to Steve Dixon (Jackson Friends) from Dixon Electric who did the wiring and Mike Brown (Damascus Friends) from Ellyson Plumbing who did the plumbing.

Dean asked Freda to bake a cherry pie this year. He had a hunch it could bring in some money. He was right! Freda's pie sold for $710 once and then, the buyer donated the pie back to FDS to be auctioned again. The second buyer paid $725. A smiling Dean and Freda handed over the pie. (Total cost: $1,435!)

A special highlight in the quilt area this year were the two "FDS photo memory" quilts. One designed as a "Crazy Quilt" and the other portrayed a church with quilt blocks containing pictures as a border.
