On the night of December 10, 2000, the parsonage at Alum Creek burned with loss of life, leaving behind words like shock, unbelief, and anguish.

On a bright Monday morning on May 20, 2002, a rebuild crew from Friends Disaster Service met to build a new parsonage bringing with them words of hope, encouragement, and love.

Volunteers arrived early on a Monday morning with hammers and tool belts, coming from Kansas, Virginia, Missouri, and Ohio. Some came because they've been on the receiving end of FDS. Some came because they are Friends and wanted to help rebuild a Friends parsonage. One 12 year old boy came from Virginia because of the people who died. Andrew Bracy was a good friend of David Watson when the boys were younger. A crew of over 56 contributed their enthusiasm and skills to the cause. Even more volunteers worked as errand runners or prepared and served evening meals.

All prayed that this rebuild would bring about more than a new building. That through the hard work, fellowship and love being demonstrated, the church community would be built up and encouraged as well. Retired Pastor Jim Brantingham commented, "Seeing these people come from so many states has injected some new enthusiasm and new life into the church. It's just been absolutely exhilarating to watch happen."

They began the week with the foundation and deck already done. By the time they left, the house was completely framed, the roof was done, and the doors and windows were installed. "A week without rain, early morning starts, and sincere, hard work allowed this team to reach their goal." commented Dean Johnson.

Contractors will complete the house by installing electrical, plumbing, insulation, dry wall, and an exterior of brick veneer.

We thank God for His presence and protection, and supplying good weather.
